As we wrap up the school year here in the Northern Hemisphere, we wanted to give a shout-out to some pretty outstanding Teacher-Authors. Four have been recognized as PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators, and another has received The Outstanding Young Persons of Illinois in Academic Leadership recognition.

We love to help TpT’ers celebrate their successes, so please let us know if you’ve received a teaching award during the 2014/15 academic year and we’ll happily add you to this post.

Kelly Gilchrist - Workaholic NBCTKelly Gilchrist — 2015 LOCAL PBS DIGITAL INNOVATOR

Kelly runs the TpT store Workaholic NBCT and says, “Building relationships with students is probably the most important key to their success. If students can trust you, respect you, and know you truly care as their teacher, the gains in their achievement are unlimited.”

Amanda Haughs

“My advice to new teachers is to never lose your love of learning. When students see you excited to learn, they get excited about learning, too!” says Amanda who teaches 5th grade in San Jose, California.

Catherine Reed - The Brown Bag TeacherCatherine from Kentucky aka Kate Wintuska — 2015 LOCAL PBS DIGITAL INNOVATOR

Catherine says, “Why do I love teaching? Teaching allows me to be my most creative self. I love mixing magical learning experiences with high expectations for our 1st grade learning. Transforming our space into a rainforest, place value boot camp, or contraction surgery suite are all norms for my classroom!”

Heidi Weber

Heidi says, “My favorite teaching quote is A teacher who adds to a student’s self confidence enables that student to grow exponentially.’ The author is anonymous but the quote speaks volumes to me. I love teaching because I share my passion for learning with my students and help them cultivate a passion for it as well.”
